The merchants wife tells us about trading in Porvoo in the 18th century.
There were exceptionally many artisans in Porvoo during the 18th century and the majority of them were weavers. The marketplace outside the Old Town Hall was the official trading center of Porvoo, the farmers brought their products here to be weighed and sold. The marketplace beside Porvoo Cathedral is believed to be the first marketplace in the city and merchants and officials lived in that area.

Augusta Carolina Segerstedt is an elegant lady from the 1850s who is an acquaintance of Fredrika Runeberg (the wife of Finland's national poet Johan Ludvig Runeberg).

Miss Ulla Möllersvärd lived in Porvoo in the 19th century and got to experience the Diet of Porvoo in 1809. She got to dance with Tsar Alexander I during the Diet dance ball, and rumor has it, that she and the Tsar fell in love. Ulla tells us about this exciting time in her life and maybe we get to know more about her romance with Tsar Alexander I..
The prohibition in Finland was imposed in June 1919 and had the temperance movement and the prohibition objectors competing for support for the following decades. In the beginning, the temperance movement had a significant support, but slowly the objection against the prohibition started to become more and more common. The smuggling of alcoholic beverages started to increase and illegal spirits started to flow into Finland.
